Working with CS for the first time

Where do I start...

I used Altium some 5 years ago, so have some idea about the Altium way, though been working with Orcad since then.

I have loaded CS trial and watched the video, and most of what is shown is just not there or does not work.

No vault. request for it to be enable does not work.

Lots of nice supplier info installed, but cannot get access to any of it, clicking on supplier links give a blank page

The internal browser does not work either, have no idea where this is set or what it is trying to use. I have having to type this external from CS.

All I want to do is to create a schematic using parts from general suppliers. Where do I find this kind of help as the help menus just don't seem to have any useful info, and searching online tends to link to altium pages?

Or am I best to scrub CS and go for Altium?

    With regards to not being able to enable the content Vault...  keep in mind you have to have an Altium Live account and be signed in using the "Home" page on the CS browser before you will be allowed to add the Altium Content Vault.

     

    Not sure about the supplier links not working, but if you're not logged in to Altium Live, that could be part of it too.

     

    I've never used the internal browser unless I pull up a datasheet using a supplier link

    I think if you can get through the initial learning curve for CS that you will appreciate all it will do for the cost.  Obviously you will run into things here and there that it will not allow you to do that Altium Designer will, but that's the give and take with the lower cost software.  It seems like they are closing some holes that the initial software had and fixing bugs and as I use it more it is becoming easier.  And the community also seems to be growing now that the pricing structure has changed, so I assume it will continue to be easier to get assistance.

    I have found that the vault stuff is slowly appearing. First the vault appeared. With generic content. The about 1/2 hr later it started being populated with specific supplier data. It kinda makes sense if this info is being down loaded. It would be useful if information. That this is going to take a few hrs to be made available after installation. I always liked Altium and never used it to its full potential. So it would be very cost effective to use CS
