Plated Vias

adamwebber
adamwebber over 8 years ago

I am creating a footprint.  I want to place a hole in the board but I don't want it to be plated.  I am placing a via and there is not an option to place unplated vias.  If I place a pad then it gives me the option.  But then I must connect it to a net designator.  Is there an option that I am not seeing?  Just to place an unplated via?

Using version 1.4 of CS.

It's clear to see the hole size, but that second number that I've highlighted in red is the annular ring. For some reason on my 4k display the display has a bug, maybe yours does too. Anyway, the annular ring and hole size set to the same number produces a non-plated via.

Interesting, I tried what you've written and it did work for me on v1.4.

No matter what I set the via diameter to (even 0mm) it still shows up in the list of plated holes in the NC drill file, and hence a manufacturer would plate it.  It wont have any copper around it, but the hole itself will be plated.

I know it's being picky, but that field on the right is "diameter" which is of the whole via, not the annular radius which is usually quoted as the width of the remaining copper area around the hole.  I just wanted to point this out so someone new to PCB manufacture doesn't get confused looking at PCB manufacturers specs.

I understand. There are other ways to get the circular cutout, but that only way I know to get the via is the way I mentioned.
