Plated Vias

I am creating a footprint.  I want to place a hole in the board but I don't want it to be plated.  I am placing a via and there is not an option to place unplated vias.  If I place a pad then it gives me the option.  But then I must connect it to a net designator.  Is there an option that I am not seeing?  Just to place an unplated via?

Using version 1.4 of CS.

Great question. Double click the via and you will see something like this: It's clear to see the hole size, but that second number that I've highlighted in red is the annular ring. For some reason on my…

Ok so I fixed it in a way.  I created the library footprint and linked it to net designator 0.  Then in the library schematic, I omit 0 and use the necessary pins to make the part (ie. 1, 2, ... n).  When the part is added to the PCB, the via is unplated.  I haven't checked the Gerber file yet so right now I am assuming that it will work.

That'll work but to keep it even simpler, you don't need to assign a designator to a pad.

When I need to create a hole rather than a pad I just create a pad with the relevant hole size, set the size and shape (i.e. the annular ring) to the same and leave the designator blank then it never appears in the pins list when allocating that footprint to a component.

One other thing to note (although you might already be aware if you have a requirement for non-plated holes) is that not very many low-cost board houses offer non-plated holes. Even it you specify them they'll all be plated. Just make sure to check with your board house first before ordering.
