Creating custom component classes

mg1

I'm trying to create a custom component class to apply a set of rules to that class. I can create a new class in the pcb and also apply a rule to that class - everything works like it should. But when I import new changes from the schematic, the custom component class will be removed because it does not exist in the schematic... but there is no way to create a new component class in the schematic??? Also importing changes from pcb to schematic doen't work because the class can't be created... CircuitStudio only automatically creates component classes for every schematic sheet.

Is there really no way to have custom component classes? But then why have a button "Add class" in the pcb "Classes" Editor? Am I missing something?

Thanks for the help!

To create a component class in the schematic, you add a parameter to one or more components with the name of ClassName and the value of the name you want to give the class.  You can do this to multiple components at once by selecting them and using the schematic inspector.

There is a second thing you need to do to make this work.  In AD there is a selection in the settings to enable component classes, but I've never been able to find this in the CS GUI (and there doesn't appear to be any doco on it.)  However if you close CS, and open the project file in a text editor and search for "CompClassManualEnabled" you'll find it set to zero.  Set this to 1 and save, now when you open CS that project will import the component classes to the PCB correctly.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for this workaround! Very helpful. Hope the developers will add this to the GUI, can't be that hard.
