Top & Bottom Component Collision Violation

fibrcom@yahoo.com

I have a component on top layer that is creating a component violation with a component that is on the bottom layer. How does this happen and how can I fix this? I've tried everything including making sure all of the primitives for each component are on the correct layer. I have several of these same violations.

This sounds like a DRC error.  Possibly a footprint/3D component placement error.  Could you provide us with an example that we could see?  Show us your design rules and the footprint model.  It's possible that the vertical aspect of the placement in the footprint is off.

You have quite the conundrum.  Double-click your 3D model and make sure that it's placed on the correct side of the footprint.  There could be a z-axis offset discrepancy.  View it in 3D mode to see where it physically sits.  Press '8', '9' and '0' while viewing in 3D mode.  Pan around by holding 'Shift'.  Look through the board from the side.  Make sure your PCB thickness is set to the correct value.  I highly doubt that your board thickness is less than 1 mil though.

You've got a lot of components.  Are there any others that are having this violation or is it just this one?  Are any other two components placed on Top and Bottom layers adjacent each other?

Hi Pat, I would agree with James's thoughts in that something is on the wrong layer or the 3D model for the component is offset somehow. Please follow his suggestions and if you are really stuck then please feel free to email me the PCB and I will take a look to see if I can find the cause of the DRC error.
