A few questions

Hey,

I have been using Altium's CircuitStudio for a few weeks now and I would really like to do a few things, which I am unsure if it is possible or not.

Here is the list of what I would like to do:

  1. Filtering results from Vault Explorer in a more efficient manner: Whenever I search for a component through Vault, I have results like this:

Vault explorer results and standard filter parametersNow, you can see that this doesn't help at all. I always have to filter a bunch of items out before I can gather any information from Vault's results.
How can I set standard filters or de-select all of them at once?

  2. Editing components from Vault: Sometimes I find very handy things at Vault, but I want to add some information (3d model, for example) for an already existing component. Is this even possible? I understand that I can edit the component properties and add/remove fields regarding it's information, but what if I want more in-depth changes, such as PCB footprint or 3D Model? How can I do it?

  3. Adding Suppliers: After installing CS, I want to add suppliers that I may have missed during my initial installation. I seem to be able to edit my suppliers that are already there, but I would like to add new ones as well (for example I missed RS when I installed CS) and now I would like to have it available. How Can I do this?

  4. Replacing a group of components: After I have replaced a number of "X" components in my schematic (for example, Component "A") using Vault, is it possible that I replace all those components "X" components for Component "B" ? Can I do it in anyway at all? Even if replaced individually, I still wonder if it is possible to replace components without having to delete and then place a new component.

Thank you in advance

Hi Rafael, lots of questions but I'll try and give you some pointers to getting the best out of CircuitStudio.

    1. Vault search results
The results can be overwhelming with all the columns that get added for the component parameters. It is worth trying the Search tab (bottom left of vault window) because searching from here doesn't add any more columns into the results.
    2. Editing vault components
This is not officially supported - the vault was designed to be read-only. However there is a post that shows a route for editing vault components should you really want to - Can Vault components be edited and saved in local libraries?. The other option is to check https://designcontent.live.altium.com/ and download libraries that can be easily edited once split into their *.SchLib and *.PcbLib library files.
    3. Adding suppliers
You may need to re-run the installer and make sure to select the suppliers under File > System Preferences
    4. Replacing vault components
I'm not sure there is an easy way to replace vault components on a schematic but if using standard libraries this can be done using View | Object Inspector and changing the Design Item ID and Library (where necessary).
