Cannot download CircuitStudio evaluation

jimku
jimku over 6 years ago

A colleague is interested in evaluating CircuitStudio and tried to download and install it on his computer without success. When he clicks the link:

https://www.altium.com/circuitstudio/download-guide

a pop-up prompts for a location to download to. He then fills in a path and it begins to download and the download progress bar moves almost all the way to the right then stops with about 5 seconds remaining but then just hangs forever. He said that he tried on a windows 7 and windows 10 machine with the same result. He contacted the IT department and they said there was nothing they were blocking that should prevent the download. IT also tried downloading and got the same result of the download hanging with 5 seconds to go.

Is there a problem with the download site?

Just tried that download link now with Chrome and it worked no problem. Maybe try this download link:

    https://altium-release-manager.s3.amazonaws.com/CircuitStudio_1/CircuitStudioSetup_1_5_2_eval.exe

As soon as I saw your reply I let him know what your response was. He then tried once more and got the same result as before. He added that he let it hang and after about 15 minutes, a popup appears that says “Unable to install package Gecko” for a short while then disappears, then just continues to hang.

He tried the link you suggested and got the same result as before. I searched the web using the terms “gecko” and “circuitmaker” since they have their own forum but is similar to CircuitStudio and found a few results that may be relevant concerning firewall settings. He has opened a ticket with the IT department but so far they are saying that nothing they are doing should prevent the download.

Can you confirm is it the initial download from the web page that is failing (a straight browser download so nothing should interfere) or is it failing when trying to run the installer itself (where corporate firewalls/gateways can prevent installation)?

He is able to successfully download a file called “CircuitStudioSetup_1_5_2_eval.exe”. Every time he clicks on the link he downloads another file with (1), (2), etc appended to the name of that file. When he runs that file and it says Welcome to CircuitStudio Installer, agrees to License, then it asks whether he wants everything installed or just parts. He has tried with the defaults and when that didn’t work, he unchecked everything except the main PCB software. Every time it would install until the progress bar moves almost all the way to the right and stops indicating about 5 seconds to go. I’m sorry for the incorrect discussion title. It should be “Cannot Install CircuitStudio evaluation”. I use CircuitStudio regularly and am the middle man trying to help him get it running.

That sounds like corporate internet gateways or local antivirus software interfering with the installation because we have seen this problem before (although not too often). The various numbers for the direct download are simply the browser creating a unique name for each download when in reality it is downloading the same file. I'll contact you direct with some suggestions.
