Create an integrated library with more than one component not possible in Rev1.5.

I'm trying to create an integrated library with more than one component.

I have created a 0402.pcblib and a r_0402_0r.SchLib r_0402_10k.SchLib r_0402_1k0.SchLib

I created a Resistor_0402.LibPkg and added all four items.

They appear to work within the library, but when I compile them into an integrated library only the first one appears and is selectable.

I then tried the SCH Library panel to add another component that way but there is no way to rename the component if you copy and paste it and it takes too long to create it everytime.

Has anybody every created components with this tool. I have used Altium Designer which is why I evaluated this but probably going to have to stay with Kicad?

Please help or suggest solutions. I think its a bug.

The 10k and 1k0 do not show in the integrated library, just 0R.

OK, I then tried the SCH Library Panel to add them there.

This now allows multiple components in the library. imageimage

BUT you cannot rename them to be the correct name.

in properties:-

There is no way to change the component name?image

How and where do I get CiruitStudio to fix bugs?

I have used to the full version using Database Libraries where you have separate files for each part which works really well.

Why does this tool not support database Libraries as its then simple to change properties  in the database file directly and alternative parts are then just another entry in the dB.

I thought Kicad was hard but this tool is impossible to use. Its a shame as Altium are really good generally?

Evaluation not going well on first day as the tool is not usual if you need to create your own parts library.

My plan was to use this for a few years and then buy the full Altium Design later!

Thanks

Lee

    Hi,

I tried to reproduce what you say and didn't see any issues that you mention.  I end up with three resistors in the integrated schematic library as expected.

Personally, I prefer sticking with discrete libraries so I have not used Integrated Libraries much in CircuitStudio and my experience with them comes from prior Altium Designer work on a team of multiple designers. I hadn't tried adding more than a single schlib and a mating pcblib previously.  But doing it just now seems to work without any issues.

However,  I did notice that in the options for Integrated Library window there is a tab and selection for Integrated Library Format with an original and a CircuitStudio setting.  I'm not sure what the difference is.  When I tested, it would not compile without error on the original setting but seemed to work on the CircuitStudio setting.

To rename a part I would typically use the Library Link > Symbol Reference text.  Just click in the field and edit.  When the properties window is closed it should rename in the library.  But it doesn't look like you have that Library Link section in your screen shot.

Sorry, if this isn't helpful other than to say it does seem to work in a manner that you are not seeing.  So, some more investigation on your part is needed.

Here is the official link to library and component management.

Component Management in CircuitStudio | Online Documentation for Altium Products

If you haven't already done so, you might try closing and restarting CircuitStudio. Sometimes if an error happens, CS doesn't recover well and needs to be restarted.

Well maybe I found something.  To edit the parts and rename them, don't use the ribbon toolbar Libraries button.  There is a right click menu option to edit component but it doesn't seem to work for me.

    THIS DOESN'T WORK

To edit the integrated library I have been opening the LibPkg file using the File > Open Library menu.  Then I open and edit the individual schlib files.  Then I would save it and recompile the integrated library.

Thank you Thomas for answering my question.

You gave me some good pointers. Changing the name of the component was the key to it, As the Dialog hides this from view I had no idea it existed.

Once I changed the names of the components to be different It all started to work etc.

Now I know this I have found quite a few extra features in the Dialogs as they are hidden on smaller screen defaults.

I agree the integrated library vesrion type made no difference.

The last comment about Edit Component does not exist in 1.5 for integrated libraries.
