Place PCB footprints from the Altium Vault without creating a schematic

I have board where I would like to place footprints included in the Altium Vault but without creating a schematic for the pcb.  Is there a way to simply place a footprint on to a pcb directly from the Vault?  All the online documentation I can find only shows placing a component on a schematic.

    I don't think so.  But you can make a temporary project that includes a schematic and PCB.  Then download the parts you want into the schematic and update to the PCB.  After that you can copy the footprint and paste into a PCB library.  Then you can put into whatever PCB you want without needing the vault for it again.

     

    Also, sometimes you can find the Altium footprints on Octopart or other sites.  It is a good idea always to verify the footprints against IPC rules using something like the IPC-7351 Land Pattern viewer tool form Mentor.

    Thanks!  You are spot on and I came to the same conclusion about creating a generic schematic with all the parts I needed.  It does seem intuitive to me that since the Vault contains footprints, that one should be able to use those footprints directly on a PCB.

     

    I also received confirmation from the TechSupport email.  They also provided the following link which is the instructions for place components onto a schematic from the vault (this is what I was trying to follow but with the PCB) but it is not clear that you cannot go directly to the PCB. http://documentation.circuitstudio.com/display/CSTU/EDesignData_Pnl-Vaults((Vaults))_CS
