Is there a way to import a vault component into a local library ?

I don't like the idea of being dependant of external, cloud based libraries.

Internet is not always available, or sometimes it's very slow.

Altium vault is free at the moment, but this might change.

Symbols in the vault are not always drawn as we would like (pins arrangement, size, etc...)

So, is there a way to get a part and models, store them in our own local libs, and if needed edit them ?

    Probably the easiest way is to download the library which contains your desired component from Altium and open it.

    It will be displayed in project explorer as a new integrated library project. You can copy and paste symbol and footprints in SCH and LIB inspector into your own project library.

    Close the integrated library project when done.

     

    That is how I did it. If someone knows another way, I am still curious.

    Hi Jacques,

     

    Once a symbol or footprint is part of a Schematic or PCB, all you need is stored in those files.

     

    To add it to your own library, you can copy it from the editor (PCB or Schematic), and paste it

    into the list in the Library panel, (the Library panel associated with the library file when open).

    You can even do it for multiple symbols/footprints at a time.

    This isn't correct as far as I can tell.

     

    In Altium there is an ability to right click on a PCBlib or SCHlib component in the Vault, select operations >> clone.  you cannot do this in CS.  its very frustrating.  It would be great to have access to especially the footprints - so at the very least we could copy generic package type footprints and edit them.

    I have a need to make a 3x3mm tssop 8 pin foot print.  I found one chip in the vault that uses this footprint.  guess what, no way to copy it.  wtf.

    Also, i see no way to download the vault libraries from Altium.  Here's what i get for trying to sign into the altium website:

    they do already have my email address on file - presumably from when I purchased circuit studio.  so i cannot make a new altium live account using the same email / user name as my CS account.

    Agreed, this is basic functionality that needs to be added.  Component creation is a mess currently.  Creation/copying existing components needs to be simple.

    Another voice for this to be solved. I can insert a component from the vault into my schematic, but I can't edit the symbol or footprint & save it to my local library as my custom part. Copy/paste from sch editor into library editor doesn't work, and "Place part" option in the Vault is disabled int he library editor. These issues really needs to be solved & in general, the whole parts & library management, editing & placing parts is way over-complicated in Altium CS. It is a cheaper tool, but it's not free... so it should be better supported.

    I agree wholeheartedly on this issue.
    When you make you first PCB in CS, it takes 5 time longer because you have to search for each part, even the trivial ones (resistors, caps etc) and carefully check what you are selecting.

     

    An option to "add to favorite parts" would go a long way to making the second and 3rd design much faster. Not to mention reducing the likelihood of selecting the wrong footprint for parts you already have in stock.

     

    However this does not address the issue of editing footprints.
    This is a serious oversight in CS and almost makes the package unusable.

    In the original post there is a link to a you-tube clip he made.
    His instructions are spot on!
    I was able to create an "integrated library" by copy and pasting components from a design I had made...
    The process was tedious however.
    CS dev team needs to make this easier.

    Hi Michael,

    Both links you provided do not work - can you paste them as plain text rather than a hyperlink? I am very much interested to see how you did the copy-paste from a .PrjPcb project into a LibPkg project in order to compile an IntLib.

    I agree that a simple right-click, insert into local library would be a nice.

     

    But I didn't think it was really that hard just to insert the component and then copy it into your own library?  The link below is my video on it.
