Wires won't connect?

jgauthier
jgauthier over 3 years ago

I did a bunch of work in a schematic and ran into multiple issues when adapting to the PCB.

One of those issues is that some of my components don't have wires attached to them.   When I inspect them in the schematic, I can *see* wires, but they don't appear to be connected.

For example, take a look at this:

So, I press "W" and connect the wire.

Then I move the wire...

Nope, not connected.  I mean, Why is this so hard?  The other side of the component has two grounds and they are fine. But both pins on this side won't connect.

There's no feed back to tell me something is wrong, there's no visual indication it did not connect.

It looks like the part (D3?) has been created with the pins the wrong way around. The four dots at the end of the pin mark the connection point or 'hot spot' of the pin, see Section 6 of this: https://my.altium.com/altium-designer/getting-started/local-library-and-symbol-creation. Normally pins butt against the edge of the part graphic, with the hot spots on the outside (see the reg below) and wires attach to the hot spots. The wire is trying to get to the connection point but can't make it 'into' the body of the component.
