Search Vault "no results"

Hi,

Per the developers:

"This should be fully resolved now. Search will retrieve results and you will be able to click on and navigate into the results. We had to restore some previous back-end system changes to fully resolve this."

I worry about the level of support. I'm currently evaluating the software, and I have to say I'm not impressed.  how do I sell the software to my boss when one of the critical features may or may not work on any given day?  Going forward are there any commitmen for a level of service that Element14 will provide?

I also emailed support about the vault problem I was having.  Yesterday (4 days after my reqjest) I got a reply saying that the vault was working fine for him and that I should check my internet connection.  what?! Didn't this support  person know that there were backend issues?

I can't disagree.  Me and my layout guy have been using Altium for a decade and recently started a new company.  We tried a few other (cheap or free) programs but they don't have many features or much of a library.  It feels like CircuitStudio was originally designed as a gimmick to get customers to buy Altium Designer.  I say this because I've been contacted by Altium sales to see if I would like to upgrade from CircuitStudio to Designer. Altium Designer was provided by my previous employer and isn't something I would ever buy - it's way too expensive for a new small business and has layer upon layer of features that the average PCB designer never needs.  CS doesn't have quite enough features to justify its price.  The first version couldn't even do slotted holes.  I appreciate the relative simplicity of CS, but that's negated by the lack of clear and supportive information about how to actually use it.  We were early adopters and paid the full original price.  This year when they dropped the price substantially our license was converted to a perpetual license, so we'll stick with it.  I hope that future upgrades will make it the kind of tool it was promised to be - which, ironically, there is a huge market for - a capable, professional, complete yet reasonably priced CAD tool.   I'd say CS is about 70% of the way there.

Thanks for the open feedback.  This is an evolving product that both Altium and element14 are fully invested into.  Rest assured that Altium is 100% behind this with v1.3 scheduled to be released this month and another version release shortly there after.

We're continuing to close out any bugs (e.g. the one you found) and tighten up our support of CircuitStudio (e.g. the issue you pointed out) to provide the best in class customer experience around the product.  Continue to provide the feedback!

As someone who has paid for it, and use it for my business daily I'm glad that e14 & Altium see a future for this product.  I genuinely believe it is by far the best tool in the price range at the moment (sure I'm biased as a long term Altium user.)

If I can pick up on one part of your reply, that Altium are continuing to close out any bugs/issues.  If E14/Altium are genuine about doing this, it would be very informative from a customers perspective to have a list of what current outstanding issues you're tracking and potential releases they may be fixed in.  I and others have raised a number of issues since starting to use the product, some outright bugs, and other issues where Altium have removed functionality from AD and left a gaping hole in the product.  Yet we have been given no feedback and have no idea whether anything will be done to resolve the issues.

Thanks for the feedback.  v1.3 will help address many of the outstanding bugs.  While an overall list of issues is internal to Altium, if you ever have bugs that you'd like to flag or check on the status of feel free to post them on this forum or email software@element14.com.   As there is new information we'll do our best to follow-up with those who reported the bugs to confirm the status of, etc (including historical forum posts).    Hope this helps.
