Bug Report - Mechanical layers on PCB prints

I think this is a bug, but I'm happy to be told otherwise.

 

I can't get PCB prints, either through the Generate Outputs process or through the PCB Print menu to include mechanical layers.

 

Steps to reproduce:

- Open Project > Generate Outputs

- Select PCB Prints > Configure

- RIght click in the list area and select Create Composite (by default this will add all the active mechanical layers.)

- Click Ok and then generate the PCB Prints.

- Note the output does not include the mechanical layers as specified.

- Select PCB Prints > Configure again,

- Note all the mechanical layers are not in the print configuration.

- Manually insert a mechanical layer, click Ok

- Again open PCB Prints > Configure and note the added mechanical layer is not there.

 

 

So how on earth do we do it?

  • I did exactly as you specified and generated outputs.  I used Mechanical 3 for my test.  I was able to generate the proper outputs with the mechanical layer included.  I am using CS version 1.3.0 (Build 26).  Of course I don't generally use composite outputs.  I like to use assembly outputs.  It helps production employees find locations on the boards when soldering or reworking boards.  But then again, I would use both types of outputs in one file if this were Altium.  Kind of a let down that I can't use both at the same time.

    Thanks for trying it.  Strange, I can change the name of Mechanical 1 to Outline and it will include it, change it back to Mechanical 1 and it wont. Maybe it's something wrong in this project?  When I have the chance I'll have a go at hacking the files and see if it works.

     

    But then again, I would use both types of outputs in one file if this were Altium. Kind of a let down that I can't use both at the same time.

    I also don't use the bog standard "Multilayer Composite Print", I just used it as an easy way to replicate (or not) the issue I'm having.

     

    I don't understand what you mean by not by not being able to have them in the one file?  Within the PCB Prints dialog you can setup any number of print configurations and they all end up in the one PDF file with the correct bookmarks to each drawing.  As far as I can remember it works exactly the same as Altium Designer.

     

    If you right click and select "Create xxx" it will get rid of all the rest, but if instead you insert a printout then insert whatever layers you want it doesn't get rid of anything else.  I'm trying to remember now, but there was a way of setting up your own custom set that could be applied to any project.

    I know this thread is dated...but I can confirm I have the same issue.  If I re-name the mechanical layer to "Outline" it exports the outline in the printouts properly.  Must just be a bug somewhere in the software.

    I know Circuitstudio is dead, but I'm having pretty much the same problem. In my case renaming the layer (Testpoints Top) didn't seem to work. in the end i had to move all the primitives to Mech-3 and then it showed them fine and i was able to generate my printout. CS clearly hates certain mech layers.
