I've just finished a board with ~400 components, which I setup a variant that just set which of a few pull up resistors to populate. All seem to be working fine, the Assembly outputs would work as expected.
I then re-annotated the board as you have to on a board with this many parts and imported those changes back to the schematics. That all went without a hitch.
Then the variant issues start. First up a random selection of resistors were set as Not Fitted, so I opened the variant dialog and it poped up as links being broken.
That was annoying, but with this design there's only a hand full of parts so no big deal, I just removed them all from the variant and re-add the correct ones. I saved everything and compiled the design, checking the schematic variants and they looked fine.
Now the Assembly Outputs for the PCB generate as having both the correct parts and the random parts as "Not fitted", when in the variant dialog they clearly are fitted.
So I removed the variant all together, added a new variant, added the resistors I wanted, compiled and still I have the random resistor not fitted in the assembly outputs!
Is there a way to force the variant to update in the PCB?
Seriously when you get to the end of a 2 week long layout job the last thing you need is this sort of rubbish. I'll just have to set their designators to DNP and ditch the variants altogether.
