Jump Component and View Configurations Hotkeys

In Altium Designer PCB view, you can press "J" "C" and that opens a text box where you can type in a ref des and your cursor will "jump" to point at the component on your PCB.  Can I do this in CS with some other keystrokes?

ALSO, pressing L in Altium will bring up the "View Configurations" window.  In CS, I have to double click the active layer button in the lower left.  Is there any way to set up hotkeys?  I don't find anything in the preferences area.

Thanks!

Andy

    Hello Andy,

Unfortunately, Circuit Studio has fairly limited hotkeys and menu shortcut keys, as compared to Altium Designer due to the ribbon-style interface vs menu-style interface. However, I do agree that they should at least allow customization of shortcut keys due to this limitation.

In terms of Jump to Component, the only workaround that I found is using the command search on the top right corner to execute the command and open up the prompt window.

Not sure what PeterC meant above because I was not able to hit l to bring up the View configurations window in CS Version 1.3 either. My method is by single-clicking the colored box right beside the "LS" key.

Please let me know how this goes for you, thank you.

    Regards,

    Eu Jin

Thanks of the input!  Thanks for finding the Jump command; it exists in the program, wish we could quickly access it.  Your method is better than nothing!

I access the View Configurations window as you do, thanks for confirming.  The L key in CS is a location command.  Maybe in the future we'll get access to setting hot keys!  image

I confess that I am now using Solidworks PCB which as far as I'm aware is essentially a clone of Circuit Studio.

Apart from having more limitations (like no access to the Vault) I had not found any other differences.

The lower case L definitely works in this.

    Apologies if I raised hopes....

    Peter

    Hi,

Shift + L will open Board Layers and colours in CircuitStudio.

NP, I expected L to work as well.  It's been that way in Altium Designer and Protel before it since the 90's.  Why not incorporate that into CS?  I don't get it.

    Thanks

I access the View Configurations dialogue approximately once every 10 minutes (sometimes more). Are we the only ones that use this so often? The omission of a hotkey seems silly, I also cant wait to try SHFT+L thanks for the tip

It's a bummer the config files are not directly compatible with Altium, I don't see the benefit of having to re-create them if you move from CS up to AD. It's very handy to flip between placement views and routing views with different layers active to minimize the visual noise.
