CircuitStudio PCB questions

Hi,

A few questions:

1. I have purchased CircuitStudio and I'm unsure about what layer the PCB manufacturer uses as the outline of the PCB ie what the edge of the PCB is milled to.

2. What are the Mechanical layers typically used for? Ie Is there a industry standard that says Mechanical Layer 2 is used for routing of the PCB. (Example only)

3. I have a PCB that is in fact a panel with 3 seperate circuits. If I already have some lines drawn on say Mechanical Layer 5 that represent the cutting between these PCB's on the panel, how do I move these lines to the layer that is required by the PCB outline?

Hey Neil,
1. Who is your board supplier? The supplier usually has design guidelines on their site. If it's Osh Park use this writeup to output your files (How to: Altium Circuit Maker PCB to OSH-Park – Jara's Spare Time Electronics)
2. The mechanical layers are for your use as you see fit. You can put whatever you want on those layers: labels, assembly information for components, notes to a colleague, etc.
3. FIrst find out what the supplier needs with regard to the outline layer. Select the lines you want to assign to a different layer and click on the "Object Inspector" under "View". The "PCB Inspector" window should be visible in the left hand pane and you can change the layer that the lines are one there.
