    Try this:

Go into your project options (PROJECT TAB -> PROJECT OPTIONS) and then select the "Default Prints" tab.  Scroll down to the Report Outputs and select Bill of Materials.  Press the Configure... button and it will bring up the BOM formatter.  In this you can select the fields that you want exported among other things.  Under the Export Options there is a drop-down menu with the following formats:

    CSV

    Excel

    PDF

    TXT

    HTML

    XML

Select the one you want and press OK.  This will save the file type of the BOM for your project.

I hope it all works out for you.

    Broadly related...

When I generate a BOM (using CSV as I too do not use Excel) I see that all of the components of a particular type and size, e.g. all 0603 resistors, are grouped together on one line regardless of the component value.  I've enabled the 'Value' column and so I can see a list of the values but what I really want is one line per value.

    Thanks,

      Frog

I'm going to try to help you as I have had similar problems in the past.  When you configure your BOM, you should see something like the attached picture.  In the upper-left, you have grouped columns.  In the lower-left, you have All columns.  To move them back and forth between the two, you simply click and drag.  In the lower-left, check the box next to any columns that you want to show in your BOM.  In the upper-left, only place items that you want grouped together.  In many cases, fewer is better.  For example, "Comment" is used for the component values (0.1uF, 1.2k, etc).  I also have footprints grouped together in case I have 0402 and 0603 components that have similar values.  So when my BOM is generated, all components that have the same footprint AND value will be grouped together on one line.

If you want every component to have it's own line then I would suggest moving "Designator" into your grouped columns.  You should not have any designators that match up and you should still want to show those on the BOM.  image

Thanks James, I'd been stuffing around on that screen but hadn't quite worked it out.  What you suggest is exactly what I need, thank you.

having excel would be pointless now as these scam artists have now broken the BOM export and it fails to use their own templates declaring them corrupt or it produces useless corrupt excel files...... Excel is a pain because if i use csv excel automatically converts some of my part numbers to floating point numbers.........
