Arrange components

In a multi-sheet design its handy to be able to select all the pcb components associated with a sheet and move them to an area of the board ready for placement and routing.

I can select all the PCB components by clicking SELECT->CROSS SELECT MODE in the sheet schematic.

But how do I move/arrange the selected components in a given area of the board ?

Hi Pat,

Also worth knowing that components on the PCB are automatically added to a component class based on schematic sheet name (e.g. Sheet1, Sheet2). Bring up the PCB pane using View > PCB > Components and then click on a component class. This will select all the chosen components which can then be moved as a group. Use the View > Clear option to end filtering.

Thanks Peter/Rachael. Once selected is there a way of moving and clustering the components together into a given area of the board? The Arrange ( Move Align ) has lots of functions but I don't see this. I suppose I'm looking for the equivalent to the Protel function "Arrange components within defined area". The area was defined by drawing a box.

I don't think there is an automated way to cluster components together into a defined area.

Highlight the components that you want to move and press 'M'. Works for both the Schematics and PCB layout. You can move and rotate the whole kitten-kaboodle now. I hope that's what you need. If not, disregard and move on to Cats in Hats.
