I am a bit confused by supplier links. Their workings is clunky and slow, researching generic parts like resistors is a waste of time as doing a search is as good as using the farnell website search box and RS which is a major local supplier and nearest competitor to farnell "strangely" never appears. Information in search results is insufficient to make a component choice and at best it can be used to create a link having researched the part anyway.
So what the hell is it actually good for? from here it would seam it simply means i can identify parts and their availability and price: Component Management in CircuitStudio | Online Documentation for Altium Products but does it mean CS can spit out a costed BOM ?
Why supplier links are "visible" parameters by default is a mystery as the last thing I need on a schematic symbol is a list of distributor stock codes that mean absolutely nothing particularly with no reference to the supplier. What I end up doing it having a standard field of my own called "PN" that any distributor or octopart can understand perfectly.
