Not feeling good about renewing...

mikeharpe

Altium has not updated CircuitStudio in months. The links to documentation on the Start screen now have broken nodes.

I get the impression that Altium has lost interest in the product.

Unless this changes substantially before my renewal in about six months, I will not be renewing the subscription.

The announcement for version 1.5, 8 months ago, stated:

"We’re happy to announce an update for CircuitStudio, CircuitStudio 1.5. Although this is not a major feature packed release -that's on its way- its still an important, and to be honest a much needed one. CircuitStudio is alive and still being developed. What this means is more regular updates, we even have planned another update to CircuitStudio by the end of this year."

The end of the year was about 5 weeks ago, so is the planned update anywhere near release? The Digi-Key bug is still not fixed, although as a plug-in I would imagine it should be possible to update it independently from the main software (even if that meant unloading and then reloading it).

I'm still running v1.4 because the updates didn't fix the problems that I've been experiencing.  It still works fine for what I need.

There is a report on the EEVBlog CS forum of someone installing a new Beta version 1.5.2. My guess is that the only difference will be a fix for the Digi-Key issue, or possibly some of the other reported bugs.

i have not renewed in nearly a year. I just got in on the last so called update. I constantly ask about updates and never get a reply except for marketing for altium designer, apparently they think CS is a good advert for AD.

The 1.5.2 update was once again available, and this time completed installing. It seems to fix the issue with Digi-Key (once you remember to disable the old provider, and enable the new one), and also adds a number of other suppliers and currencies. I'm not sure if it has fixed or added anything else - I haven't noticed anything yet.

The only other comment is that start up seems slightly slower than 1.5.1.

My CS does not report an update available but I don't have an up to date licence. If it's a small supplier thing update it's no interest to me.

So now the update is available and I need to renew my licence, err, so that I can have the update that hopefully fixes the bugs introduced by the last fake update..... but all i can do in CS is buy a new licence...... which i of course won't.

Confusing. CircuitStudio breaks a function to then sell an update with only the same function fixed ? Oh....that's not very trustworthy.  :-(((

    G'Day,

Are there any SME's employed by Element14 that cab use their rank to get some feedback from the vendor?

It can be difficult for an individual customer to get a response for product questions. Corporate accounts tied to valued contracts have a little more pull especially when the contracts are due for renewal.

My questions assumes Element14 might have a product expert (SME) for this product that can contact the vendor and inquire. Users are pretty low in rank and don't get the response an individual wearing strips might get. I acknowledge that is not what you would expect but, corporate commerce is what it is.

    Sean
