  • Filtering, selecting and navigation in multisheet schematic should be better.

  • To answer questions 1 & 2:

     

    1. For me the most compelling aspect about CS is it's familiar enough after working with AD for a long enough time that I don't have to retrain.

     

    2. What feature to add? Stop looking for new things and fix the semi load of bugs the software currently has, and while you're at it bring back some sort of filtered selection tool (aka find similar objects or the query panel.)

    I agree with the hobbyist version... I bought it but I will use for professional jobs too.

    I agree. We use a cross-platform ARM development environment called Crossworks for ARM by Rowley Associates. Their "Named Developer" commercial licence costs $1,500. They also offer a Personal Non-Commercial licence for $150 with the following conditions:

    A license for hobbyists that want to play with hardware for fun! No guaranteed support and certainly not for commercial development. Before we issue any activations of this license we need a signed non-commercial agreement on file

    Though their support (in my personal experience) has been excellent anyway.

    Perhaps Altium could offer similar terms to non-commercial users. Getting developers interested in (and comfortable using) an IDE is half the battle.

  • I want to be able to have control over the projects that I am working with:

    Design Rules need to be more friendly and universal. 

    Exports need to be more friendly and universal.

  • One of the reasons I bought the unlimited license of circuit studio was the great price offered by Element14 (about 30% of the original price). But there are also more reasons that moved me to this choice: one is the - obvious - Eagle import capability, not just because I was a fan of the pre-Autodes Eagle version but because of the large number of already available material and project in Eagle format. Then there are lot of useful tools like circuit analysis, 3D representation and the search of the components. Using if for few time I loved the approach to the design for easy and complex projects. Last but not least I have found a lot of professional engineers from several companies and my collaborators to be extremely happy to work and exchange electronic designs using the Altium design studio.

  • Here are some suggestions to the product team:

    Simple scripting capability would be awesome to see in CircuitStudio; I use that a lot in my current workflow to auto-generate certain things (like pads placement for component - I just execute a custom script and type input the part dimensions and I can auto-generate certain connectors or IC pads).

    Also, (and I really think this is worth considering), CircuitStudio should have a hobbyist version that if anything should become more cutting-edge than Altium's stable products, on the understanding that there is near-zero support except 'best-effort' from forums.

    That way Altium can beta-test new features eventually destined for Altium Designer, and users who are unwilling to pay the AD price can benefit while providing beta-testing.

    Also, please no deliberate removal of functionality like polygon priority to cause artificial product differentiation by slowing down the user. Differentiation can occur in other ways e.g. the difference in support, or board size, or number of layer restrictions, etc.

    But please not too many dimensions to the restrictions.. some other vendors restrict pins and size and layers and it all gets too much. A simplified single restriction is good. The large enterprise customers will continue to buy AD for the support, stability of AD, and the removal of the restriction.

    I hope these comments are not seen as criticism, just ideas for consideration..

    Would be nice if multiple choices could be enabled for certain questions. If I'm honest, I haven't really looked at CircuitStudio because of its lack of platform support (I'm not a windows user).
