Farnell introduces digital-to-analogue audio converters from Cirrus Logic with 24-Bit resolution to enable high-quality audio performance and integrated 2 VRMS line drivers and PLL to simplify designs.
The CS4350 and CS4352 digital-to-analog converters (DAC) are complete stereo audio converters that offer a strong combination of audio performance and feature integration. They are based on an advanced multibit Delta Sigma architecture that provides the basis for their excellent dynamic range and improved out-of-band noise performance. The automatic sample-rate detection, which uses proprietary Cirrus Logic techniques, simplifies designs by automatically configuring the CS4350 and CS4352 into the appropriate operational mode. Further, Cirrus Logic’s patented PopGuard technology serves to suppress clicks and pops often associated with power cycling.
The CS4350 features an on-chip phase-locked-loop- (PLL) based master clock that supports 24-bit resolution and up to 216 kHz sampling rates and 108 dB dynamic range. Because of its on-chip PLL, the CS4350 is ideal for applications where an audio-related system clock is not present. By integrating the PLL, the CS4350 has eliminated the need for external master clock routing across the circuit board by locking to the incoming left-right clock signal, as opposed to the video clock or other high-speed clock sources, thus significantly reducing interference and clock-jitter sensitivity. This feature gives system designers a very high-performance DAC that also simplifies product designs.
The CS4350 supports all standard PCM audio interface formats as well as the TDM interface, which enables daisy chaining of up to four CS4350s to receive 8-channels of digital audio on a single data stream. Single-ended or differential output architecture provides additional design flexibility. With its on-chip line-driver and analog low-pass filter, the CS4352 gives designers of mainstream consumer audio products the ability to eliminate external components, reduce design complexity and overall system costs.
The on-chip line driver and analog low-pass filter directly drives a 2Vrms consumer line level audio output, eliminating the need for an operational amplifier and as many as 10 passive components within system designs. The integration and ability to directly drive the output of the end product greatly simplifies analog output stages and reduces costs. It is also pin-compatible with Cirrus Logic’s CS4351 DAC, ensuring an easy upgrade path.
