Device Leverages 20-bit Delta Sigma ADC to Offer Unparalleled Analog Integration, Enabling Concurrent Measurement of Low-Amplitude Signals and Functions such as LCD Drive
SAN JOSE, Calif., December 7, 2009 – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today introduced a demonstration kit highlighting the broad precision analog capabilities of its new PSoC 3 architecture. The new CY8CKIT-007 PSoC 3 Precision Analog Voltmeter Demo Kit showcases a PSoC 3 device as a single-chip voltmeter, using an onboard 20-bit Delta Sigma Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) to measure the voltage from the included test leads and onboard thermocouple while directly driving an LCD. With the kit, designers can use pre-configured op amp, ADC and analog mux components in the PSoC Creator Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to quickly and easily design industrial sensors, consumer sensors, glucose meters and other analog applications.
The flexible PSoC 3 architecture combines highly integrated, programmable analog and digital peripheral functions, memory and a microcontroller on a single chip. Precise analog resources available in the kit include four digital-to-analog converters (DACs), four comparators, four op amps and four PGAs, TIAs or Mixers. The voltmeter in the kit measures -30V to 30V of DC signals and includes an onboard thermocouple that is used as a low-noise voltage input. More information on the kit is available at www.cypress.com/go/cy8ckit-007.
PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 devices extend the world’s only programmable analog and digital embedded design platform, delivering unmatched time-to-market, integration, and flexibility across 8-, 16-, and 32-bit applications. The platform is powered by the revolutionary PSoC Creator IDE, which introduces a unique schematic-based design methodology along with fully tested, pre-packaged analog and digital peripherals easily customizable through user-intuitive wizards and APIs to meet specific design requirements.
“The new Voltmeter Demo kit provides a practical application of the powerful precision analog capabilities of the PSoC 3 architecture,” said Matt Branda, director of marketing for PSoC products at Cypress. “With the kit, designers get a feel for the high-level of analog integration enabled by PSoC 3, along with the simplicity of analog design through our PSoC Creator IDE.”
The PSoC 3 Precision Analog Voltmeter Demo Kit contains:
• The PSoC 3-based voltmeter
• Test leads
• USB battery pack with two AA batteries
• Quick Start Guide
• Kit CD, which includes: PSoC Creator, PSoC Programmer, sample projects and documentation.
