Qi Wireless Charging

toni.thenhausen

Hi,

is it possible to use the MOD connector on the back of the phone to connect a USB wireless charging adapter like the ZXK Wireless Qi Receiver? Does the MOD connector on the phone's back expose USB pins directly?

Thanks!

yes and no, and FIRST the MOD connector on the back of the phone is NOT described in the public documentation.

From public docs we know (signals in the moto-z phone connector (the POGO pins!):

    1) GND

    2) Battery Voltage

    3) 5V

    4) greybus over SPI, 4 pins

    5) UniPro 4 pins, multiplexed with I2S raw mode and USB 3 Superspeed

    6) USB2/MyDP differential pins D+/D-

    7) one pin AUX used as MyDP C-Wire and/or USB OTG ID? and maybe something else?

In all cases the phone connector pins do not go directly not to USB connector of the phone or to phone battery, there are multiplexers and other circuitry in between.

Short answer, yes it is very possible.

Longer answer, you'd do absolutely nothing with USB and you'd control your power flow between the Moto Mod and the Moto Z with the Power Transfer Protocol.
