I heard about this job after we ran a roadtest on NI's Thermocouple Measurement Kit.  I'm passing it on:

Who They're Looking For

  • The ideal candidate has a love of test engineering and experience with NI software and hardware, eager to both listen and evangelize, by creating innovative user programs and compelling content that is seen as valuable assets to our users.

What You'll Do

  • Leverage your insights & experience of software community best practices to develop intentional and curated content, programs, and events, turning users into advocates
  • Create value in sharing, leading to a vibrant community that is a bustling repository of beneficial user generated content.
  • Gather & tell meaningful stories about NI, our products, & capabilities encouraging our developers to unleash their true potential.
  • Engage with industry thought leaders & influencers, earning their trust to help magnify your work.
  • Source and consolidate feedback articulated internally as recommendations to improve the developer experience with our products and user touch points.
  • Collaborate across Business Units, R&D, and digital teams, to shape goals, activities, and outcomes.

What You Need

  • 5+ years of experience building communities around software, with a deep understanding of how to create mature developer relation programs.
  • Regular participant and experience speaking at technology conferences (in person & online), blogging and/or writing articles, and contributing to online technology-based discussion forums.
  • Ability to trailblaze new paths with limited direction.
  • Demonstrate a drive for results, and possess an ownership mentality, while having the ability to successfully solve problems and make decisions.
  • Possess expert skills around building consensus and rallying cross-functional and/or global teams to work together despite organizational boundaries.
  • A strong desire and thirst for continuous learning and growth, constantly keeping up with current industry trends and processes.
  • Ability to travel internationally 20% of the time.

My Take

If you are at all interested, I'd take the time to apply. My personal interactions with NI have always been positive. I've found them easy to work with. And their products have received good reviews. My feeling is test engineering is on a growth path, so it's an area that one should see career growth. Good luck.

    Your idea holds merit.

Let say you are thinking of selling hot dogs. If you could set up your stand in a park over a sunny long weekend me thinks you got customers. A vendor having a forum with someone to ensure content is up to date and relevent hosted in a tech playground sounds like something that might work.

It sounds like they could achieve some of those objectives by leveraging the element14 base and expanding their involvement. Manufacturer specific forums are okay, but I would rather they use an umbrella forum like element14. It takes a critical mass of activity to keep members engaged and repeatedly visiting a forum. The variety on element14 ensures more frequent content updates and more traffic and a more consistent audience than a single-supplier forum can achieve. I tend to only visit manufacturer's forums when I have a specific question for the manufacturer. I would see much more of any manufacturer if their activities were available on element14. The trick is only how to structure their content in the element14 framework to make it interesting for members.
