TDS3032 - broken channel input

Former Member

Hi everyone,

I have a nice TDS3032 DSO at home which I use for my home project developments.  Unfortunately Channel 1 has gone faulty, and having discussed with Tektronix I've been informed that the "Hybrid" component on the channel input is likely to be faulty and that a repair will involve the fitting of a brand new complete motherboard.  Unfortunately this is a very expensive repair!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've had the scope apart but could find nothing obvious that I could potentially repair myself.  If anyone else has been successful in a repair for this symptom I would very much appreciate your sharing the information! My scope works fine on Channel 2 so I've been putting up with it in the meantime.  Not that I would wish misfortune on anyone but I've been kind of hoping for a broken one to pop up on Ebay - perhaps one that's been dropped or something like that.  Hopefully then I can make one good one out of the two!!

Advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian.

    I don't know what the "Hybrid" component is.

    1. if the "Hybrid" component is a module or SiP component, and the part does not announced publicly, you have to purchase it from TEK.

    2. pls paste the photo of "Hybrid" component in order to judge it.

    best regards;

    Thanks for the response.  I am not certain what the "hybrid" component is myself, I am merely repeating what was told to me during my brief conversation with Tektronix on the matter.  The basic outcome of my conversation with them was that the hybrid had most likely been damaged and you could not buy it as a separate component.  Hence their offer to replace the entire motherboard.

    I don't know if they are unable to replace the faulty component because they simply don't make them as spares or if they just don't entertain repairs in the first place.  I was rather hoping it would be the latter, so that perhaps I could effect a repair myself.  It's a long shot though, I would have to agree with that!
