A Guide for Pre- or Full-compliance Efficiency Testing

 

The attached application note will help engineers who design and test power supplies, to make efficiency and standby power measurements accurately, quickly and safely. 

 

It will also aid design engineers involved in pre-compliance testing in early design cycles who wish to  reduce re-runs at third party compliance labs.

 

Although the focus of this application note is on the Level VI efficiency standard, the principle and underlying methods can be used for any AC-DC power supply or similar converters.

A key tool in facilitating power supply efficiency testing is a programmable DC Electronic Load.  The Series 2380 are single output, standalone loads with 200W, 250W and 750W models. They offer multiple operation modes with up to 25 kHz of dynamic cycling, superior voltage/current resolution and readback accuracy.
