10BASE-T1L, PoDL, Single Pair Ethernet

Hello

I am implementing Power over Data Line in my 10BASE-T1L project. I checked the Würth Electronics webinar video on YouTube "Single Pair Ethernet filter design for industry". The following picture is taken from that [presentation](https://www.we-online.com/web/en/index.php/show/media/06_passive_components_-_custom_magnetics/events_1/webinar_videos/2021_webinars/Single_Pair_Ethernet_Filter_Design.pdfhttps://www.we-online.com/web/en/index.php/show/media/06_passive_components_-_custom_magnetics/events_1/webinar_videos/2021_webinars/Single_Pair_Ethernet_Filter_Design.pdf).

Here, a differential mode inductor is used to inject/takeout DC power on the line. What should be the minimum value of coupled inductor (U3 & U4) for class power (IEEE802.3cg class 10-12)? This might be quite a simple question, but I am very new to circuit design.

Hi suresh11 , my collegue says you can use this one: https://sg.element14.com/wurth-elektronik/7448990470/inductor-47uh-2-3a-20-coupled/dp/2842138 Hera also a suited appnote for you: https://www…

I don't know the answer but perhaps 20 uH as a minimum is a reasonable first guess start for your tests. It would provide 1k impedance, I don't know if that's enough, but seems a good starting point to…

Hi Nicola, Thank you for the quick response. I am also using a 47uH inductor from WE similar to the one you have suggested. The following two figures depict my test set-up and PoDL schematic. I am using…

    Hello nwieland,

I was wondering what this image of a PCB is.  I see the title at the top that it seems to be a sort of PoDL, power coupling circuit.  However, it is a little hard to understand.  Are you able to provide a schematic of this circuit?  Many thanks.

    Best,

    Zach

    Hi zkrough,

minus coupling capacitors? I am not sure if I understood you correctly. Yes, the above PoDL circuit works with the development board. However, I removed the transformer (L2 in the above pic) as I always got problems when the development board is RESET. It does not matter either PD or PSE is connected first. Just use the coupling capacitor and differential mode inductor to inject power into the line.

    Hello suresh11,

So just to make sure that I am understanding you.  Your circuit only contains L1, C1 and C2?  I also wanted to confirm that you are using the part number 744871470 as L1 correct?  My final question is, can you power L1, without having another decoupling/evaluation board on the 'remote' side.  As this I mean, can you power L1 while it is connected to the development board and nothing else?  Many thanks for your reply.

    Best,

    Zach
