In last years I used most time used Raspberry Pi for some kind of long-term automation. For example, last few months two of my Raspberry Pies was running experiments (one Rpi 4B and one 3B+) to evaluate…

I already have a Raspberry Pi Zero; I tried desktop on it, but Zero doesn't have processing power, which is why I need a Raspberry Pi 5.

I would probably set this up as a server to receive weather information, and display it on a smart mirror. It would get weather info from the home built station in my backyard.

I would hook it up to control my 3D printer as a standalone unit with a display.

I am going to explore Raspberry Pi 5 for IoT sensor server applications. I tried to use Raspberry Pi 3B to run some IoT applications, however the overall performance from the edge computing at Raspberry Pi 3B to the cloud server were not good enough for me to continue the path. I hope I can resume the path on Raspberry Pi platform for edge computing applications, especially smart sensor applications.

I have been wanting to build a ProxMox cluster using SBCs for my lab to build an efficient environment to study for certifications. Unfortunately, the Pi shortage has prevented this so I have been using a huge Dell Poweredge T420 running in my little apartment.  I am very excited to experience the Pi 5 and see how it performs!

Oh, and I would like to decode the USB-C PD messages that the RPi5 is sending to request the 5V/5A power from its proprietary power supply (which must have very custon PDOs/APDOs) that you have to buy to unlock reasonable power on the USB ports.
