Pi 4 (2 GB) Price Drop!

Good for them, this is a great deal for a powerful computer. I paid full price for my 2 GB model. They say they can do it because RAM has gotten cheaper. Too bad the Pi 4 1 GB model stays the same price.

That's great news!
As you mention, although they say it is because RAM is cheaper, the real reasons we won't know, and could be different : ) , e.g. perhaps getting more costly to produce the 1GB version.
People only like two choices anyway hehe.
Better to help the customer make a good choice, and feel good about their choice, by offering them two nice options and make one of them affordable too.
