Raspberry Pi 4 from You

richard.h.paine
richard.h.paine over 5 years ago

I bought a Raspberry Pi 4 from you and am unable to get the micro-HDMI to project to a monitor.  Admittedly, I do not have a 4K monitor and in fact, I have two older monitors that have DVI and VGA ports with DVI to HDMI cables and VGA to HDMI cables.  The cables work fine on Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3 and I can run my GoPros through those cables and they project just fine.  I have looked through the specs, Youtube, and Google with no results as to why I am having trouble.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    Hello Richard,

there is no problem having a 4K monitor as the Raspberry Pi 4 works on full HD on the HDMI monitor. This means 1980x1020.

The second problem is easy to solve, any adapter you own, will include a standard sized HDMI female plug, I suppose. So it is sufficient you buy from Amazon the Amazon Basic micro HDMI to HDMI cable, that is what I have done with my Pi 4B.

    Hi Richard,

For my first Pi 4, I made a mistake connecting up the HDMI plug - I plugged it into HDMI1, assuming that was the first interface, and got no output. But the first interface is labelled HDMI0, had I looked at the board in more detail.

I used it with a 1920x1080 monitor with full-size HDMI port (using a micro HDMI to full-size HDMI cable as Enrico mentions).

richard.h.paine  I'm not sure if you've solved your challenge yet.  If you're not getting a display on a freshly flashed NOOBS install, power up the system, wait 10 seconds or so. press the space bar, press "I", press Enter.  I call this a blind install.  It should start the NOOBS install which will figure out your monitor and load up your operating system.  I didn't think to try the other port as suggested by shabaz.  Another solution is to flash Raspian Buster onto your SD card without going the NOOBS route.

Good news.  Your old monitors will work.  The monitor I have used most with my RPi4 is VGA.  I use the HDMI to VGA converter below.

It does take a couple of extra seconds to display video on a RPi3, but not on the RPi4.

Good point Shabaz also I would try and configure the RPI to deliver only 1080p and not Auto select.

Also if you are not going direct it wont read the EID codes from your TV/Monitor it will display what it or the adapters think to be correct.

For example if your monitor does p30 or p60 then your adapter offers the RPI p25 then it will probably take that as it's compatible with PAL TV.

The RPI and adapters are happy but the Monitor not so much !
