Serial from Gertduino to Rpi

Hello. Are people usinh this board?

I recon not so many.

Anyway it is a great board, works fine.

How do i have to configure things, making connections on the gertduino, to use the serial monitor on the rpi arduino ide.

How does this work?

Thanks, Dian

Reading the manual it seems the Atmega328p microcontroller will have to be programmed before you can use it as an Arduino. I found this article from 2013 that describes the step that are also found in the manual. However they're not using it as an Arduino in the manual, rather they're programming it as an AVR device with C. They've hooked GPIO8 up to the RESET line,

So you need to enable SPI with sudo raspi-config and then you can program the Atmega328p chip using the linuxspi device from AVRDUDE. The chip that comes with the Gertduino seems to be completely blank so you need to set the fuses before you can program a bootloader or program onto it. I'm sorry but I really don't understand why they call it an *duino :/ It's not using the serial interface like a regular Arduino Uno, which requires the RTS line that's on another header on the original model B.

I hope that gives you a starting point, sorry that I couldn't be of more help than that.

    Thanks Adrian for the reply.

I did all that, the gertduino setup, and i use it and program it from the Arduino IDE. Can also program it with avrdude

I would like to know what connection i have to make to use the serial communication from the Arduino AT328p chip to the Rpi.

On page 5 of the manual stand some examples, i think i have to use the RaspberryPi to Atmega 328 connection.

I used that but did not have results, and i did not see a Port in the Arduino IDE.

So now i use this workaround,

I use the at48p IRDA pin 3 the catch-up IR signals, On there runs a sketch digital read to digital write, to pin 5.

This pin 5 ouput is connected to Pin 11 on the At328p, on there runs the IR-remote sketch.

And then i use the Serial Tx/Rx lines (pin 1 and 2)from the At328p chip connected to a FTDI adaptor, and that usb out i connect to the RPi in port.

And then in the ArduineIDE i select that USBport and see the serial comm. comming from the At328p.

Works great,  Dian from the Netherlands

Gotcha. I don't understand why they did the serial thing like that either. But I'm glad you can work around it and make use of the board with an FTDI adapter.

And......answering my own question in the beginning.

I did the same thing like above.

Only not reading the serial in from the ftdi.

I made the cross-connection again, is at328p to Rpi, and read this serial-output to the serial input of pure-data, and not the Arduino-ide that did not work, find a port, so pure-data found that used port.

Namend AMA0 in the console by command

    ls /dev/tty*

In Pd i found the remote-control data.

    Works great also. Dian
