I have a RetroPie console setup and I did a short stream on periscope about it to show a buddy of mine. My dad caught the stream and loved it. He asked me to build him one and I was thinking a handheld/console hybrid something he could carry around OR plug in to the TV with a controller and play on the couch.
My current problem in designing this thing is the screen; I need 640x480 in a 4-5” screen, touch would be nice but not required. 800x480 works as well it just means there would be a little bit of a border on the sides. But most of-- if not all of the screens I have found use the HDMI port which means that it wouldn’t be available to use to plug in to the TV.
I am also trying to visualize the design, I think I need a d-pad (or analog stick), start and select buttons, L & R shoulder buttons and at least four other buttons though 6 would make it more conducive to things like the genesis/mega drive games. I was considering a GBA style design though maybe a hair bigger. And I’d like to keep it fairly slim, not much thicker that the pi itself (with ports of course).
I was hoping that by posting here maybe some of you would bounce ideas around with me or point me to other similar projects you’d done or found.
