Has anyone heard of Raspberry Pi, new lowcost mini PC (Due out Feb 2012)?

I recently heard about this product from a colleague here at element14 and curious to hear if any of you have either?  If you haven't perhaps your kids have? image

A description from the company describes it as:

"The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and  a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things  that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also  plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the  world to learn programming."

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the product as it sounds like a game changer in the computer world.

Here's their Twitter account and website if you'd like to check out more about it:

Website: http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

Thanks for your thoughts and comments as always!

I`v been following them for the best part of a year now, as well as Maximite and recently Duinomite, I think the aim is totally admirable, todays ICT (don`t ask me what it means) computer education not Just for my daughter that`s doing it also, but right across the board, truly sux it!

their goal is to bring coding Back into the schools with cheap easy to program interactive Physical Computing devices.

todays kids have no idea what parity, mantisa, MSB, LSB, accumulator etc... is!

but could probably fly around windows app without a problem, not Once was any thought given to the Next Generation of coders image

These guys on the other hand!....  image

I am not a big Unix clone fan, but I absolutely like the idea of getting these devices into the hands of the next generation.  If they offer the buy one give one, I just might participate.  I am trying to get local kids involved with computing, but most just want to play games.  We need to get them off fantasy and into the realities and fun of making real products.

    Good Post,

    DAB

The Gertboard add-on should make it easy to tap into the Pi's affordable power for DIY projects:

have allot of possibilities. I bet it could control bigger Electric

Motors too. Like for Electric Car Conversions...
