Has anyone heard of Raspberry Pi, new lowcost mini PC (Due out Feb 2012)?

I recently heard about this product from a colleague here at element14 and curious to hear if any of you have either?  If you haven't perhaps your kids have? image

A description from the company describes it as:

"The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and  a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things  that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also  plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the  world to learn programming."

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the product as it sounds like a game changer in the computer world.

Here's their Twitter account and website if you'd like to check out more about it:

Website: http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

Thanks for your thoughts and comments as always!

Yeah, I know someone whose been working with them. The product looks amazing - and at this price point, I'll be ordering one as soon as they come on sale.

Been keeping track of the project for a while now. Would love to get my hands on one. It is a decent spec with good capabilities for what it is.

Given the price it may well be a game changer for the market, my only worry is that once it reaches the main market, companies will take to adding on huge license fees for custom software and effectively spoil it. Perhaps not likely to happen, but someone will try it.

From the whole project, what disappoints me most is the manufacturing side. It is a huge disappointment that they haven't been able to make it in Britain due to the costs. Would have loved to see a Made In Britain label on it. Regardless of this let down, good luck to them, mostly for keeping up with the initial demand!

I have been watching the progress for several months now.  December was unlikely, January was mentioned, but hopefully February it will be for sale.   Wish, I could have purchased one of the Ebay ones, but way out of my budget.

Thanks for the heads up, I will join the queue for the release of this very useful, and surprisingly inexpensive product. I have never heard of it before, a reminder to spread my net further!

Yes, this has been the subject of much discussion on the Pic List. Looking forward to seeing it at this price point.
