Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

each time i go to the site i following the links and end up here

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/bespoke/bespoke7.jsp?ICID=I-RASP-HPBLOF-0015&bespokepage=farnell/en_UK/promotions/raspberryPi.jsp

this fails massively, always times out...

been trying every 10 minutes from 6am this morning until now.

considering ordering from the states side links just to make sure i get one

i would have ramped up the webserver resources and the bandwidth to cope for this sudden surge of access.... i think whomever is in charge of farnell's web sites... need to pull their finger out and get the lead out

I'm in the same boat - exactly the same experience as you.

Ras-Pi seem to be rejoicing in all added publicity and getting all hairy-chested about the traffic peaks.

Us enthusiats are just getting more frustrated.

With some thought and forward planning, all this could have been avoided.

One of the other demanding web sales is Glastonbury Festival tickets. When tickets went on sale they frequetly had server outages.  The solution was to get people to pre-register in the run up to the ticket sales.  It wouldn't have been hard to do something on this occasion.

I managed to get one from Farnell at about 9.00am this morning.  Website has been down for most of morning though.  I agree in that there needs to be a system in place to deal with huge amounts of traffic.  Hope you all get one though.

Well I assume the plan was for R-Pi to sell the first 10,000 via their website and for RS and E-14 to come on board later, so I suppose E-14 and RS didn't think it would be this popular.  If R-Pi had told them how many people were on the R-Pi waiting list RS/E-14 might have realised this was going to be big, but then maybe R-Pi did and RS and E-14 ignored them.

End of April ... they are joking!

    Thanks for the number, though.

The whole Farnell site is "down for maintenance"  - -  serves 'em right, this was entirely predictable and steps should've been taken to alleviate this.

    Mike
