Greetings, fellow potential Rasperry Pi owners, from the old(ish), if not necessarily wise. I'd somehow missed this intriguing little toy until today, but I've got to have one. GOT TO. GOT TO.... I want it now... No, I wan't it yesterday...
Having cut my teeth (or what's left of them) on a BBC Micro, and later on an Acorn Archimedes) as an amateur programmer (including doing a bit of ARM assembler), this nifty little bit of kit looks just the thing for nostalgia trips, as well as actually being useful as a grey-matter exerciser, and maybe even something more useful. Heck, if I use it for browsing the web, rather than using my overclocked i7 12 GB gaming beast (the one with a 1000w power supply, 2GB graphics card, and a CPU cooler the size of a WV Beetle engine ), it will probably pay for itself within a month in reduced electricity bills...
Anyway, as soon as I've scraped the pennies together, I'll be ordering one. Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide what to use for a case. It just cries out to be put into something different, so maybe a trip round the local charity shops might find a wind-up alarm clock to degut and recycle. Or maybe I could hollow out a book (probably not a very good idea, books make good insulation, and it might get hot). Or maybe I should put it into an old PC case - though it will look rather lonely in there. I've even got my 1980s-vintage Archemedes (not working), so I suppose I could put it in there, though it would be a shame to hurt damage an old relic (the Arc I mean, not me ). Or where else? I'll have to have a look through the accumulated junk that seems to follow me around, to see if I can find something suitable. Actually, a baked-bean can would be big enough, and if I remove the beans via the bottom, I leave it looking intact...
