Hi!

Just curious about what people were planning on using their Raspberry Pi's for once they started getting them!??

Current plan- SFF Media PC / NAS etc mounted onto the VESA on the back of my TV

Later plan- Replace car stereo etc with RPi

Probably not the most origional use there but still, godda start somewhere!

Aiming to create a fully capable portable PC, equipped with two 1(or 2) watt speakers, webcam/mic and 7" LCD display.

Case is to be made entirely of oak wood or medium-density fibreboard (MDF), depending on various factors.

Equipping it with a mini 40x40x20 heatsink/fan combo.

Aiming to get the case sorted as soon as I get to stick my fingers in that sweeeeet Raspberry Pi...

Thinking to power it up with a solar cell 6V 500mA (3W) solar panel. Could powering RPi with solar cell be too risky to the chip or the whole system itself?

Car Computer - ready made 7" screen in my dash for it image

Also - one of these taped to the back of MicroProjector would be the ultimate portable movie device

I'm looking to use this to replace a laptop that I'm using to run a specific Java app. The app, called J/MRI is used to control and setup various parameters of the DCC components in model trains. At this point, I have a traveling system that I carry around to exhibitions and use to setup peoples' models. The laptop, being a laptop, is portable, and I'm always worried that it may grow legs and walk. The Pi could be built into my travel case fairly easily, along with a small keyboard, mouse and a little monitor. At least, that's the thought.

Interesting idea, I've been wondering about Java, too.  I'm concerned the architecture and RAM might be a problem.

It seems like a lot of the knowledge about Raspberry Pi is in their forum which unfortunately is still down (due to the launch).  I did find this in Google cache:

    Cheers,

    Drew

Would hopefully like to see a case for it but...usb hub with a mini usb wifi dongle, keyboard and mouse. Fairly large usb drive to store my media and stuff. Maybe just go with an external hard drive but I don't want to overpower the RPi, anyone know if thats a possibility? Other than these few things I'm just gonna turn my TV into a web browser and media center. Most likely going to use it for programming as well.

Just make your own case! I've taken the TECHNODROME toy and converted it into a case mod with fans, a usb cd drive, and extended all the inputs/outputs that come with the Pi. Now I just need the Pi itself.

I'm going to use this mainly to network all my devices to a central hub. For media mostly. I like the car idea as well.
