What's Your Pi Plan??

Mine will be an RDP client... I am full up with computers, Linux and Windows but don't have one in my living room. The Raspberry Pi will become a Remote Desktop Client attached to the TV via HDMI. Then I can work from the comfort of the sofa. 

It'll make a pretty good media player too

With correct regulation (http://www.national.com/mpf/LM/LM2937.html#Overview) it should not be a problem. i assume there will a battery involved (For when there is no sun).

I want to use them as Third World Computers, and send them to a village I know in "Serere", Ugunda, Africa...

I'm not too sure what types of "video-capable" TV/Monitors/etc they have over there, BUT I'm sure for a few cents they can pick up an old TV/CRT.

Then village children will be able to "program themselves" (and their exteneded families) into a better life. (ie: learn to program and build a better life for their families).

Having worked in IT security since my time in the Navy, I plan on implementing a home network malware detection system if possible. I have also played around with auto integration such as GPS, Ubuntu One sync and perhaps playing with the voice control features of Ubuntu. The home media center sounds interesting, but I'm curious as to the full potential of the Pi. I am always open to any ideas and willing to devote as much time as I can afford to lending any skills I have (however meager) to helping anyone else as well.

Just want to start learning the basics of Linux/ programming. Email, web surfing to start hopefully more. Would like to see what I could use it for in HAM radio. Some of your guys' ideas sound pretty cool!

I'm thinking about some sort of smart weather station kit, maybe for enthusiasts or schools to build and install.

It could record basic meteorological data which could be used by the Met. office or apps for more granular forecasting.

The RPi would be ideal for this.

Is POE an option?

Good lord are you guys seriously capable of all this stuff? I've got a lot of learning to do

My wife has a serious heart lung problem that causes her to black out. I would love to connect the Pi with bluetooth to a heart,sats monitor that can call me if she collapses. It must be able to tell the difference between snoozing and a blackout.

@ Andrew Morley: I am not capable of all this but hope that tool kits  will emerge to get all this kit talking to each other.

I hope it will be as simple as writing in html or building a r/c kit. I am sure you can learn to do 10 times your current abillity if you can find the time to research and play. I built my first transistorised curcuit at 49. I was stuck in the age of relays and diodes.

My Pi Plan is to get two!

I currently live in Asia, but my family lives in the UK. The first Pi will run Fedora Remix as a headless server, with a 1Tb USB drive and a seperate card reader attached to a USB hub - then I want to create a OpenVPN server which also runs as a internal SAMBA server on my UK domestic network, with an external facing SFTP site so that I can reach all my notes & files from where ever I need to. It will also run a VNC server, to give me a remote desktop (predominantly for Firefox) & an SSH server (to properly play with the config, as a command line is so much easier than any form of GUI).

The second Pi is so that I can teach myself Linux again (I've forgotten it over the last decade) & organise/deveop/upgrade/test my config for England on a local Pi in Asia, where if/when I destroy my config I can just reboot it, or restore it, or start over and try again until I get it right. That's why I need a second card reader on the first! I can then SFTP over a known working SD card image, dump it onto a card in the second reader & get someone to turn it off, swap the cards over, then power it up again with a brand new, but pre-tested, config.

Of course, having a Pi here in Asia where I can really get stuck into the OS & tweak it to my heart's content will be amazing fun. Each time I destroy it, I can just reimage an SD card before making completely different mistakes & repeating the process again almost indefinitely. The only way to properly learn what makes a computer tick is to repeatedly mess it up - then repeatedly have to dig yourself out of the hole that you just dug yourself into. After 6 months of that you really know your stuff, and after a year you're absolute dynamite. I can't wait for my first Pi to arrive & I really can't wait until production ramps up and I can get my second in place (on the other side of the world)...
