End of my frustation

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

After following the Raspi infos and discussions for month, I did not get a device or a preorder, even an interest entry.

So I decided to stop my frustation today and have ordered a Beaglebone. This has about the same functionalties as

the Raspi, but it is better suited for embedded developments, eg. 64 GPIOs, 4 UARTs, .....

It comes with a Linux distribution and one could even implement Android on it. And TI has some nice daughter boards

in the pipeline.

OK, it is more than double in price, I have to pay around 90 € including tax and shipment. But its worth to start with

my project soon, instead of burning my time waiting for Raspi, Gert-board, etc.

So I will have a close look next year to the Raspi project and wish to all of you successful projects.

Walter

I sympathise with your frustration.I was also unable to buy a RPi, despite spending a few hours trying online at the appointed hour.  For what it's worth, from my point of view the RPi communications were not intentionally misleading. The had a plan which they described, but they changed their plans at the last minute (understandably, and I think for the better long-term, although this is not yet apparent) and were prohibited by their vendor agreements from publicly explaining the details in advance. And they had some miscommunications on Twitter also, after the fact, due to vendors not being on the same page with them (literally and metaphorically).

FWIW, the educational package "RPi for kids" release is planned to have a case included, and more software, and it doesn't start until this Fall (? -anyway later). The initial board run is for the hardy hackers who are willing to blaze their own trail and put up with various inconveniences.

For the vast majority of us, like me, who were NOT able to buy a RPi yet, you can still get started trying some things out in a virtual environment. See for example:
