    John,

Might be an idea to tell us when you ordered and through who, so we can build some up some data.

Order placed on 03/20/2012, expected shipping date 08/08/2012. Confirmation email took 5 minutes.

I'm in the US and ordered here at Newark/element14.

I placed an order for 2. If I'm reading everything correct I'll probably only be charged and shipped a single unit. I'm positive I'll be able to put 5 of them to use. This reminds me of when the xbox 360 was first released.

If my shipping date changes I'll update. Good luck everyone.

My Order was placed in the UK online via the Farnell web site, at 11:57:46 on 04/03/2012

    Expected delivery around mid May.

My order was placed 29/Feb 1h 45m after the release. I've just been told by Element14 AU that delivery has slipped to end of July. I am getting very frustrated.

This is a copy of a post I made on the Raspberry Pi forums tonight, hoping it might assist somewhat.

Note, one thing I didn't mention is that many factories have a 3 month in advance (at least) schedule of what production runs are in the works. So if RS and E-14 pop along to the factories they use and say we have this we want you to make, room has to be made in the schedule - this does depend on how large the board stuffing houses they use are of course. There are also the solder mask stencils to be made and checked.

    "

I have worked in manufacturing of electronic devices within the telecommunications industry and health devices.

Depending on how parts are sourced (customer provides the parts versus board stuffing house buys to BOM) it can take up to six weeks. The PCB"s can take a week to be made and shipped to the factory assuming the cheapest board deal was selected, add on a week if customer requires part checking to specs, setting up pick and place machines takes about a day to two days or more if unlucky. Running profiling for the ovens, checking SMD screens and solder/flux are correct, adjusting screen printer all takes time, add on actual production which assuming a shift of 8 hours could result in a minimum of 100 to 300 boards per shift possibly more, add on hand soldering for connectors and visual inspection, rework (if allowed by customer), testing , packing and shipping would all add up to at least another month.

So assuming no problems from woe to go a minimum of 1 month lead time and more likely 3 is about right for large production runs.

Mind you I"ve been out of that side of electronics for some time now and have never worked at a Chinese factory, having only worked at places that have three Pick and Place machines running, two solder paste screeners and four ovens. "

I don't know if it helps, but I just got a response from Newark in answering a question on my order status.

They said that any new order is being given an July delivery date, which lines up with the Newark/Farnell stock status on their website, though I suspect this is a little dated, even though I asked the question yesterday and they responded today.

They also said that the lead time is 40-50 days based on current orders and production schedules.

I can say that they really never answered my question, not really ever providing concrete information.  However, what can we extract from these answers?  Well, if you ordered very recently, you're likely looking at early August.  If you got in the first 10,000 you will likely get your RPi a week or so AFTER we all hear that the first batch is shipping to customers.  For those of us that ordered around 29 Feb, but didn't get in the first 10,000, I sense that we could see some of these shipping within 40-50 days of the first batch shipping.  Now depending on where you are in the "launch bubble" (and noone really knows this except Farnell and RS) you could be within a few weeks of those 40-50 days.

Hopefully, the manufacturer is actually working on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. production batches at the same time as the component swap is going on on the 1st batch.  We've been told a few time on this forum that the component swap is a manual process whereas the main production is mostly automated.  Provided they have the parts, maybe they are already making new "correctly made" RPi boards while the original 10,000 are being fixed.

I was sort of hoping someone from the Foundation or Farnell would eventually come on the forum has help us understand where we are, so we don't have to assume things.

I'm not sure how 40-50 days gives an early august date.  From now till august is about 140 days.

Like I said, they didn't really answer the question and the info is rather contradictory. I'd really like to see a Farnell rep put out a real "useful" update.

At least you guys/girls have had an answer.

Mine was with Farnell NZ (they use Australia), at 1911 (which is 0611GMT) on 29th Feb, and I've heard nothing at all.

The status of my order shows PENDING.

It is frustrating to see others with a date, despite being well after this time.

    Mark
