Fedora Remix OS testing strategy

What is the strategy for testing the Fedora Remix OS prior to release to customers?

 

It is apparent from the recall of the first release of Fedora Remix that neither

Seneca nor the Foundation nor Farnell is doing adequate OS testing before

making it available for download.

 

What are the plans to improve this situation?

 

Will the Foundation, which reportedly has no employees get involved

in OS testing? 

 

Will Farnell get involved with OS testing?

 

Will OS testing get subcontracted out?

 

Will there be beta releases of the OS?

 

What OS capabilities will get tested?

 

What applications will get tested?

 

What performance criteria will get tested,

such as boot time, ability to keep up with user input,

X Window performance?

 

What stability criteria will get tested, such as

frequency of needing reboot?

  • I think you are completely missing the point of this project.

     

    Whatever OS you may or may not decide to run on it, the responsibility for testing it and making do what you want is yours.

     

    The hardware is for sale, not the software. As such, you are going to get exactly what you are paying for....

     

    Seriously, if you are not happy to be doing a LOT of work for yourself, is this a product that you should be investing in?

    If Farnell has no responsibility for the performance of the OS,

    then why did they recall it?

    Why would you think that Farnell has ANY responsibility for the OS? Have they claimed to anywhere?

     

    All they were doing was, out of the kindness of their hearts, making it available if people wanted to grab it.

     

    What they HAVE done is to say that there seem to be issues with it, so they are not going to facilitate its use for the time being.

     

    It's still available for anyone who wants to experiment and work with it from the Raspberry Pi website, as well as from the originators at Seneca.

     

    Farnell have no power to "recall" it. It's not their product....

    I think Farnell has Fedora OS responsibilities because they are providing that OS for

    download as the recommended OS to use with the hardware they are selling. 

    If the OS that customers download from the Farnell site doesn't work well with the

    hardware that Farnell is selling, I expect Farnell will be the ones handling the complaints. 

    That is presumably why they sent the OS back to Seneca for rework.
