What is the *expected* Element14 response to expression of interest?

morgaine
morgaine over 14 years ago

I've been here on Element14 since November 2011, as eager to get my hands on an Rpi as everybody else.

I registered my interest with Element 14 within the launch week, (I avoided the chaos of the first few days on purpose.)  What's more, I screen-capped the confirmation screen at the time,  Expecting everything to be fine, I sat back and patiently waited for the email that the confirmation screen said was coming soon.

And waited and waited ... nothing arrived in the mail at all.  Yes, I did check the spam folder regularly as well as the inbox, and yes, the email address is correct (as I said, I took a screen cap, just in case, and of course I have since checked and rechecked that everything was indeed correct)..

After nearly a fortnight of waiting, and noticing that many people have received a confirmation email, I filled in the same form again, and included a note about my earlier registration.  (Again it was successful, and I took a screen cap of this registration too.)  And waited, and waited.

Another week has passed, and still nothing.

Knock, knock .... is anybody there?  HELLO??????

I'm a UK customer of Farnell, and they give me *PERFECT* service, with immediate response. This Element 14 response is certainly not that.

What should have happened?   What do I do now?  It's like talking to a black hole.

Is this zero response correct, or should I have received an acknowledgement email?  [ANSWER FROM Element 14 STAFF PLEASE.]

Yours sincerely frustrated,

Morgaine.

Bumping my own thread since no Element 14 staff responded to it yesterday, which may have been due to it being buried deep down.

Please, Element 14 staff member, let us know whether "registering your interest" is supposed to result in an email acknowledgement from you to indicate that the person is in the queue.  Or, alternatively, please confirm that you send no confirmation email at all.

    Thanks in advance.

    Morgaine.

@Morgaine: I think you will find that you are not really 'in a queue' until you have actually placed an order with Element 14, either by folowing the link which has already been posted, or even over the phone.

Only then will you receive an email from them, giving an estimated delivery date, and then further ones as it is updated.

Although they do ask for a credit card number, we have been assured that this will not be charged until your Raspberry Pi is ready to be shipped.

That is my personal experience here in the U.K. anyway!

    Good Luck!

P.S. Although I did complete the 'expression of interest' form well over three weeks ago now, I received no direct response to this at all... and still have not done so!

@David:  When you "register your interest" at Farnell/Element 14, the confirmation screen says the following:

        THANK YOU

Thanks for registering your interest with Farnell

We will be sending an email in the next few days will details on how to order.

I still have that page open, and have cut'n'pasted it exactly here, even including its typo /will/with/.

The message doesn't look ambiguous to me.  I find it hard to believe that it doesn't mean exactly what it says, that they will send an email within a few days.  Well I have now registered twice, and waited over 3 weeks total.  No email.

I use Farnell quite a lot, but they redirect all web links on their site for Raspberry Pi over here to Element 14's "register your interest" page, and Element 14 is not responding.

I don't think I'm asking too much for Element 14 to do as they claim they will do on their own web page.

Chris suggests that I use RS instead, but that rather misses the point.  Farnell is a quality distributor and I like using them.  I find it difficult to believe that they've totally lost the thread when it comes to Rpi.

And Element 14 staff *still* haven't answered ....

    Morgaine.

@Morgaine: Yes, I fully agree with you... that is exactly what it says, and that is what should happen.

But for some reason, only known to Farnell/Element 14 that is NOT what has actually happened.

You have not received an email... I have not received an email, and I am am sure that there are many, many more prospective customers who have never received one either, and who probably never will.

It would indeed, as you say, be interesting to receive an 'official' reply to your question.... and also to receive some realistic shipping dates for those who have actually managed to place a firm order with them.

I was just able to preorder the RPi on this website using the link on the website. Took my CC# and everything.
