raspi streaming from slingbox

I've been thinking about what to do with my Raspi once I finaly receive it and have settled on using it to connect my TV in the US the web so as to access my Slingbox in the UK.  Not sure of how this will look at this point.  My main concerns are whether or not the Raspi can run Firefox and access Slingbox over the web.  Any ideas / comments welcome.

Hi - I tried using Slingbox back in December and was disappointed, as a Linux user, to find out that it didn't work with any browsers in Linux.  I ended up having to run Windows XP in a VM.  I know the Raspberry Pi can't run Windows at all (even in a VM since it's ARM not x86 and has very limited RAM).

However, I used the Slingbox Android app ok to watch the Slingbox on a Nook Color (running Cyanogenmod).  I've read that folks are aiming to get Android to run on the Pi, but a problem could be the limited memory of 256MB.  The Nook Color did have 512MB.

But given the low price of the Pi, I'm sure we'll see all sorts of clever hacks once they finally get into folks' hands.

    Cheers,

    Drew

Drew - thanks for the insight regards running on Cyanogenmod.  I had not considered that but can see how that would be a potential solution - Nice idea.  Running Android on the Raspi is probably beyond me at this point (I don't even have a Raspi at this point - Do you?) but as you say - the world will soon be full of Raspi hackers.

I'm Pi-less too for now.  CM has been great on the Nook Color which I picked up for just $150 back in October and quenched my desire to buy a more expensive tablet for now.  There is also a dev board called the PandaBoard which runs Android and might be an option if you are interested in a dedicated Android device: http://pandaboard.org/.

I've had success with streaming the Sling HD thru Facebook on a Linux machine w/ FireFox.  I'm curious how choppy it will look on the Raspi.....anyone tried?
