Right now, Debian is the best one to use. It has been available for a while,
and is reportedly stable. It can be used with QEMU on a Linux or Windows PC
in the absense of RPi hardware. It may even be faster that way.
Fedora was released only this month, but was promptly withdrawn by Farnell due to
a number of issues, including but not limited to performance and stability issues.
The Fedora Remix is currently based on Fedora version 14, which has been end-of-lifed.
Neither Debian nor Fedora has GPU accelerated X Window drivers, and neither
is built specifically for the v6 ARM11 architecture.
Some applications may only be available in one or the other, or may be more
up-to-date in one or the other. You would need to check any particular applications
you are interested in.
Fedora is the OS recommended by the foundation, but they haven't explained why.
Thanks Coder27, that's very helpful.
