New Shipping dates

GreenYamo
GreenYamo over 13 years ago

Looking at the Pi forum and also from personal experience, it looks like Farnell have just released another set of mails with shipping dates, ranging from early May (W/C 7th in my case) to W/C 28th May, so if you haven't received an e-mail yet, it may be worth checking your spam/ junk mail folder.

Pleased as I only got a mail last weekend, stating a W/c 4th June shipping date...but as ever, I'll wait until it is in my hand until I believe it :-)

Steve

I've been anxiously checking my email and Newark's website for weeks.  I ordered just after 8AM on 29 Feb and to this exact moment I show nothing other than "backordered".  My original order confirmation email showed 10 May as the date, but that email was sent on 29 Feb and a lot has happened since then.

I understand that the Farnell/Newark network is really big with multiple regional/country distributors, but I'll be really pissed if I don't get some update very, very, very soon.  Even this thread shows people who ordered weeks after me getting shipping dates, whereas I still have nothing.image

mmm, I got the same email too, I ordered on 3 march (from italy, that forgotten EU country), got week 2 as extimate delivery date, and now the mail tells me I'll have it shipped the 4 june. so we're there?

they even thank me for my patience and offer a 15% discount cupon for next >65 euro order... ha ha ha.

even so I'd prefer they'll fix the price, it still shows the wrong one (more than it should be) on the order page...

Jesus - I ordered it on Feb 29, but late in the day around 4pm. My expected ship dates have changed from First week of April to mid May to end of June and now to Aug 16 with element14. I have ordered Custom PCs in the past and never has it taken more than 3 weeks even when Supply and Demand were high. I have lost interest with this project at present time and moved on with other stuff. When it arrives, I will deal with it. I have also ordered the Customer Cases from Modmypi and I expect them to be arriving sooner than the board.

I bet these guys had no idea what the demand will be; you do not need to be genius to figure out when you sell a $35 and name it as a computer, there are millions who will be interested in it. I am surprised to see only 100,000 orders are placed. Enough of my rant!!!! I forget it for now, and when it arrives I plan on using it.

Pre-ordered from Farnell on 11-th of March (Lithuania), but haven't received shipping date update as announced on 27-th. Wrote to sales support but received generic answer saying I should check Raspberry Pi FAQ :-|

Any ideas if I receive shipping update?

P.S. nothing in my spam folder.

Despite what we were told (by Jenny) earlier, it is now looking to me as if they are only planning one shipment (or despatch) per month.

My order was placed on 7th March (3 days after Biker Mondo's) and I am still being quoted the end of June!

If it makes any difference, I am in the U.K.

My partner ordered her's on the same day as you David and got a shipping dat at the end of June too.  I'm thinking there was a helluva rush in the first week of March.

We  won't know how the continuous manufacturing process operates until we've had 3 batches under our belt as precedent, or until company representatives tell us.  They haven't chosen to tell us yet.

For any given rate of manufacturing, the two opposite shipping options for the factory are:

    • Fixed interval:  At specified intervals, ship however many boards have been produced (number varies).
    • Fixed number:  Whenever a specified number of boards has been produced, ship them (interval varies).

Batch #1 was messed up by being manufactured in two parts (2,000 and 8,000), the 2nd part of which was delayed by manual repairs to the boards made with the incorrect RJ45 socket, and also by waiting for the certification process to complete.  And the start of continuous manufacturing may have been delayed by component sourcing too.

This forthcoming batch of 12,000 (which will be batch #2 counting them this way) is the first one made under the new continuous manufacturing regime, so we won't be able to conclude anything from it alone.  Once we see batch #3 we'll be able to judge from its size whether they're using the fixed number strategy, and once we see batch #4 we'll be able to judge from the intervals between #2-3 and #3-4 whether they are using a fixed interval strategy.  This assumes a fixed production rate which of course may not be the case, so we may see both intervals and batch sizes varying.

The only good way to know what's going on before we have LOTS of batches made and delivered is to ask Jenny and Co, and hope for an answer. image

    Morgaine.
