Rasberry Pi & Musical Floppies?

FIRSTLY:

From what ive read up. this is done using arduino and come converters and MIDI code.

My question is: what are the possiblities of doing this on the PI ?

i know the pi does have input output pins. and ive seen some videos using steppers motors so surely the principle is the same?

what are your thoughts ?

Ive alos dug this how to on arduino and the chap uses Netbeans IDE, ive used it a tiny bit , but wonder if this is possible maybe to run on the debian build ?

ive not really dug into the rasberry pi coding yet.

and from what i can tell this looks like a good starting place... turning pins on and off as simple i/o's just like the arduino.

its in C language so my question is how would i go about using this ? sorry to sound so simple but im really new to this.

Give me HTML / PHP and il run circles around you XD , but C / C++ / C# / Python and youve lost me

if someone has there pi and is willing to give it a try and report back

Ive also come accross this, which has got a nice clear layout as to what the pin outs are.

It to like the wiringPI has some examples as to how to control the basic I/O's
