USB and LAN ports not working

I received my Raspberry Pi today, but unfortunately neither the USB ports or the LAN port appear to be working.

 

I have tried numerous low power USB devices like keyboards mice etc. but can't get any life out of them, although I am able to charge my phone from the ports. Same results using two different 2A adapters to power the Pi and with a powered USB hub.Tried connecting the LAN port but the light on the router indicating a device is attached did not come on.

 

I've tried Debian, Arch and Fedora from RaspberrPi.org and also tried the kernel update which I believe is to address a different issue with USB. At this stage I'm fairly sure there is a fault (LAN is connected through USB I believe?). I'll wait and see if anyone else reports similar problems, otherwise I think I'll have to return it.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions or has had a similar experience with theirs?

  • Ok so I bought a multimeter today and have now tested 7 different power sources and all were within the tolerated range throughout booting. Only one came close to the lower limit, weighing in at 4.79 Volts, and the rest were between 4.85V and 5.09V.

     

    Having a USB keyboard attached to the lower port made no difference to the readings.

     

    All were tested with the same cable. If I get sufficiently bored later I'll try all the cables I can find to try and identify any poor performers.

     

    I'm fairly sure my SD card and images are ok because I've tried two different cards and 4 images - all with the same results. Indeed, as I type this, XBMC is staring at me from the Pi, taunting me!

     

    I appreciate the help and ideas you have all offered, but I must have reached a stage where you won't begrudge me sending it back for replacement now, right? image

     

    I'll probably spend the evening prodding various things with my new multimeter so at least something good has come of this!

    Very sorry to hear that, Mark.  After all the waiting and the expectation, to find that you have a faulty unit must be devastating. image

     

    For what it's worth, well done on the extensive testing and measurement.  It does at least put you in a position of strength for returning your Pi.  And you've managed to find a small reason to smile still, which deserves an applause all by itself. image
