Newark knows "Diddly"!

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

I just got off the phone with Newark, US/Canada, same place.  They know nothing, diddly squat, rien, zip, zilch...did I say nothing!

You would think after almost three months that the sales support team would have some thing new. I got some guy saying that he gets 30-40 calls a day asking about the RPi.  All he could say is that they all sold out in minutes back in February, and that no one knows when more are coming. When I told him that Element14 customers were already receiving them, even people who ordered after launch day, he said that he can't verify that information and that I shouldn't believe everything I read.

So what he is saying is that most of posters on this site are lying and just playing with everyone else's feelings.

How can Newark get dozens of calls a day on one subject and not investigate to have up to date information?  We've got tons of reports from the RPi.org forums and here that new RPi are being shipped.  Where is the disconnect?

I am personally very disappointed. This type of customer service is unacceptable.

Coder27 requested an update to the FAQ.  This HAS to be done!!!  Probably a good idea to send a copy through internal email to Newark on the other side of the pond, so they realize it's not 1 March, but almost June!!!

    Kevin,

We are more than happy to look into this situation for you;  to do that we will just need a few pieces of information regarding your order.  We will be sending you a private message momentarily so that your information is kept confidential.

    Hello Customer Support,

In case you haven't heard already, Kevin received his unit already,

on 31 May, by Purolator next-day service, no less.

But there are other forum members here who I'm sure would be

delighted to have you look into their situations.  See for example

Bill McKenzie in this thread, and also these other recent threads:

    p.s.

I am curious, are you new to Newark/Element14?

It looks like your account was created just last Friday.

Can we just get this right please Bill? You are saying that although you did not place an order until 22nd April. you have now been advised that your order will be shipped on 20th June?

I am sure there are a lot of folk here in the UK who would be delighted to receive that level of service, but unless there are plans to ramp up production considerably in the next two weeks, I don't think that customers who ordered theirs a month (or more) before you will receive theirs by then.

    David,

Why you questioning me?  I'm just repeating what they told me.  I thought it was weird I would get mine in June, but maybe they have a butt load of devices coming or something?  Don't know, don't care.  I just couldn't understand why my ship date was Aug, when they are telling people if they order right now, they could get the device in July-August timeframe.

I'll be happy when the thing is in my hands.  I first logged on to the Element14 website back in early April and followed the instructions to "express interest" and get notified when I could order.  Never heard a damn thing on that, and so went digging and found the Newark site where I could actually pre-order.  However, Newark seems like a stepchild or reluctant partner in this whole thing.

Anyway, I hope anyone who ordered before me gets their Pi first, I am not looking for special treatment, just wanted to know why ordering today was better than 6-7 weeks ago.

    Bill M.

Not questioniong you at all Bill... sorry if my post came over that way.

Just really gathering 'amunition' to use against Element14 here in the UK who now seem to be dragging their feet a bit now, compared to Newark, who do seem to have 'pulled their socks up' quite a bit over the last week or so.

I actually placed an order with them (Element14 in the UK) on 7th March and am still waiting to be notified of a delivery date!

Likje you, I would love to have one in my hands also! image
