touch screen

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Dear all,

I am designing a (mini) internet radio player device for home with RaspberryPi in it.

As interface I want to have it equipped with something much smaller and simpler than a keyboard. A touch screen (I thought a 8-9 inches would be enough) would be a good choice.

1-Which models would u recommend to me?

2-Are there ways to program the internet browser to show the content of an internet page resized in such a way that I would see it like in a mobile device?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Bye

    Good day,

Regarding your second question, it is a matter of telling your window manager to fire up the browser in kiosk mode or simply with a geometry that occupies the full screen. Perhaps you will find this interesting:

    http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2012/06/auto-login-auto-load-lxde/

On your first question, I would be very happy to find a good quality touch screen I can use for my current project. My project is about home automation and requires embedding a Pi along with its monitor on a wall as a home controller and human interface. Ideally, since it's a low component count project per installation (one or two per home, and I only have one home to install now - mine) I can spare some cash to make it high resolution, pleasing to use, and scratch resistant. I have read that Corning (who make the Gorilla glass for the best screens out there, which I believe includes the iPhone/iPad - at least the 1st gen) have signed a deal with Sharp, but Corning's fancy Gorilla Glass website only lists some retail devices at http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list .

Browsing Farnell's catalog has not been very useful so far, and neither has been looking at Sharp's lineup of displays at http://sharp-world.com/products/device/lineup/selection/pdf/lcd201201_e.pdf

So, I'm also looking for an 8-9 inch screen that I can integrate with my wall box, hook up easily to the Pi (HDMI I guess), is high resolution, has touch input via USB or similar and incorporates something like Gorilla Glass 2 for durability and ease of use. Anyone?

    I'd look at

    http://www.chalk-elec.com/

They've done touchscreens for other small computers and are working on the pi.  Also they are reasonablly priced.  If you already have a monitor you can just buy the lvds convertor for $30 or a complete touchscreen kit for $130.

    Good day,

Chalk-elec.com looks very nice and I decided to wait for their July 2012 release of a Raspberry Pi touchscreen. However, as of today there is neither the promised part, nor any news other than "will be available for purchase in July-2012". So does anybody have a hint at whether they will eventually release, or any other idea about where to look?

    Thanks,

Ok, finally I have a Chalk-elec.com capacitive panel in my hands. I still haven't connected it. First impression is good, it comes in a nice package and has an iPad-ish look, electronic components look nice. Will try and update when I get it working.

I've been curious about that LVDS LCD adapter board and look forward to hearing how it works for you.

    thanks!
